There is Nothing Like a Dam

Dental Dams are used extensively by dentists when having root canal therapy and all the other nasty stuff they do to your mouth. They were designed for use by them to keep a tooth dry they are working on. In the sex industry, we use them for a very different reasons - think of them as flat condoms for oral sex . The dental dams dentists use today are very different to the one's we use in the sex industry. Sex industry dams are much thinner, come in different sizes, colors and flavours.

Latex dams are rectangular pieces of latex a few inches square which are used as a safer sex barrier during oral sex with a woman (cunnilingus) or during any oral-anal contact (rimming). During sex, latex dams are stretched across your partner's genitals to prevent your tongue from touching your partner's secretions. They are a very effective method of disease prevention, but can be difficult to hold in place. For this reason you can get panty-like dam-holding "harnesses" for hands-free operation and they even make dams with adhesive strips on them now so they can hold themselves in place.

Oral Sex

Dental Dams can be used for oral sex on a woman and in some States like Queensland, dental dams legally must be used if you wish to give a lady a headjob. This is because it is illegal to engage in any sexual act within the sex industry that is not a protected service, meaning condoms must be used for headjobs on boys and dental dams for headjobs on woman.

To use one for a headjob on a woman:

read the instructions on the plastic bag it comes in for a refesher course
pull the dental dam out of the plastic bag it comes in
check it to make sure it has no holes in it by holding it up to the light or under some water
shake it about a little bit or wash and dry it - it may have a very light covering of powder on it so you want to shake or wash it off
get your partner to lie back, relax and open her legs so you're able to lay the dam completely across her vaginal area
if it's a littlebit dry you can apply some lube to the side of the dam that will come in contact with your partners genitals. This can also help to make it stick in place and definately increases the amount of stimulation your partner receives thru the dam
You can either hold it in place with your hands, or ask your partner to hold it in place so your hands are free for some extra stroking and wandering.
Once you have used the dam, remember to stick it bag in the bag and dispose of it in a garbage bi - not down the toilet or the fish will swallow it and drown :)

Rimming

Rimming is where you lick your partners anus/butt. We use a dental dam for this to stop from getting all the usual STI's (gonorrhea etc) but also to stop from getting things like Hepatitis A (transmitted by putting foecal matter in your mouth) and shigella. Some people may also find licking their partners butt is gross, but their partner may like it, so this will help out with the gross factor if you have it.

To use a dental dam for rimming:

follow all the steps written above for using one for oral sex with woman.

Cock Rings

A cockring is any device which restricts blood flow in the penis which will make a dick harder. It's basically the same principal as a tourniquet vampires use when giving you a blood test at the Doctor's surgery. You have probably had a tourniquet used by a sex worker and never even realised it. Have you ever felt a lady wrap their finger's around the base of your cock while giving you a headjob? Their fingers are acting as a tourniquet and restricting blood flow in your penis making it harder. Ladies may also have used a condom as a cockring by popping a hole in the top of it and wrapping it around the base of your dick, or used a purpose built condom made out of leather, rubber or metal. It is a really common practice.

People may choose to use a cockring instead of their fingers because fingers can only be used when giving a headjob. For dicks that start going soft during sex, a cockring must be used. Dental dams make good cockrings because they are extremely plyable and have alot of give in them. This cuts down the chances of bruising because they will stretch when they need to and are thick around the base of the dick (thin plastic or metal cockrings can bruise the base of a dick because they don't spread the load). They can also be easily removed if you need to get them off unlike metal rings that cannot be cut off.

To use a dental dam as a cockring

take it out of bag
look at size of penis and judge how thick it will be when it's hard (you can usually tell a small, medium or large dick even when it's not as hard as it gets)
if it's a medium size penis, make a loop in the dental dam about as big as the base of a small size condom opening and tie it off.
You will now have a dental dam tied in a circle that looks like a rubber band. Grab the penis, put the dam over the penis and push it down to the base of the dick
Now it's down there give the guy a headjob, handjob etc to get the blood flowing and let the dam do it's work

Tie and Tease

If you've ever touched a dental dam, you'll know they are made out of the lightest of materials and are very pliable. This makes them perfect for a tickle and caressing someone's skin with and perfect for tieing around someone's wrist to restrain them. If you have someone who is nervous about being tied down, tie a dam around their wrist so they can see how stretchy they are. If you do this, they will be more likely to let you use a dam to restrain them. A lovely soft pink dental dam, looks and feels alot less scary than a set of black leather retraints.

What to use if you can't find a dental dam

cling wrap! yup as silly as that sounds, cling wrap can be a beeeewtiful thing
condom - cut up the side of a condom or break it with your hands and you can lay it flat and use it as a dam
latex glove - cut up the edge or leave it whole
any other thin plastic material you can find. Just remember the thinner the better

Warnings

Be careful not to leave them anywhere a child may snoop because little people could choke on a dam and the plastic bag it comes in. Also emember they degrade just as a condom does if left in the light or in hot rooms. They also have a use by date on them and finally be careful what use you use with them. Baby oil and silicone lubes may break down the dam causing breakages.
